Installation and setup

First you will need to install Python. It is recommend to use ActivePython 2.5 from ActiveState since that is what webgeno is tested with. Other versions of Python will probably work as well, but you're on your own. Note that the contact details for this download are optional.

Next you will need to install libxslt. Webgeno was originally designed with 4suite but support for libxslt was made the default because pre-built binaries for 4suite aren't available for the Mac.

Finally you will need to download and extract the contents of the webgeno ZIP file from SourceForge

To use webgeno, open the folder where you extracted the webgeno files. Go to the directory corresponding to the template that you'd like to use and then double-click on the "webgeno.bat" file. This will use the default website.xml file in the main webgeno folder (which is currently just a dummy site file) to create an initial site. Open the site by double-clicking on the newly generated "index.html" file. This should bring up your default browser.

Look in the "starters" folder for some specific website.xml files that you can use in place of the default to get you started faster.

See the Quickstart guide for info on how to start converting this dummy file into your own site.
